The State of the French Mediterranean Coastal Aquifers
نویسنده
چکیده
ABSTRACT The French Mediterranean coastal aquifers are essentially alluvial, deep sedimentary and karst. Whereas the alluvial aquifers are particularly sensitive to salt-water intru sion, contamination of the deep aquifers is generally due to vertical hydraulic connec tion with the shallow aquifers. As for the karst systems, which are quite well developed f rom Languedoc-Roussillon to Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, their hydraulic pattern is generally complex; consequently the salt-water wedge is difficult to determine and can v a ry rapidly in both time and space. Although aquifer salinisation may be natural, i.e. in surface and karst aquifers (e.g. La Vise, Port Miou), it can also be due to human o v e rexploitation. Fortunately no large areas of French Mediterranean coastal aquifer a re so far concerned by salt-water intrusion. Wa t e r-management tools have been deve loped, as re q u i red by the Water Bill, in close cooperation with the water users and authorities. THE STATE OF THE FRENCH MEDITERRANEAN COASTAL AQUIFERS

Laboratory study of the simultaneous effect of discharge well and cut of wall on reducing saltwater intrusion in coastal aquifers
These days, the sea level rising and excessive harvesting of coastal aquifers has caused the intrusion of saltwater into underground water sources. In this study, the performance of the use of cut of wall, discharge well, and their simultaneous use in preventing saltwater intrusion has been evaluated in a laboratory model and under different scenarios. The results show that the appropriate use ...
متن کاملSPREAD OF THE GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE VARIANT (G6PD-MEDITERRANEAN) IN ONE OF THE COASTAL PROVINCES OF CASPIAN SEA IN IRAN
In order to explore the nature of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency in one of the coastal provinces of the Caspian Sea (Mazandaran) in Iran, we have analysed the G6PD gene in 74 unrelated G6PD-deficient males (2-6 year children) with a history of Favism, by using PCR and subsequent digestion by appropriate restriction enzymes, looking for the presence of certain known mutation...
متن کاملMonitoring and Management of Karstic Coastal Groundwater in a Changing Environment (Southern Italy): A Review of a Regional Experience
The population concentration in coastal areas and the increase of groundwater discharge in combination with the peculiarities of karstic coastal aquifers constitute a huge worldwide problem, which is particularly relevant for coastal aquifers of the Mediterranean basin. This paper offers a review of scientific activities realized to pursue the optimal utilization of Apulian coastal groundwater....
متن کاملIntegrated onshore-offshore investigation of a Mediterranean layered coastal aquifer.
Most of the Mediterranean coastal porous aquifers are intensively exploited. Because of climatic and anthropogenic effects, understanding the physical and geological controls on groundwater distribution and flow dynamics in such aquifers is crucial. This study presents the results of a structural investigation of a system located along the coastline of the Gulf of Lions (NW Mediterranean). A ke...
